Loan watch: Russ finds the back of the net once again for Marine

It’s been a busy week for our young Cods who are out on loan this time out with non-league sides with a Bank Holiday schedule to deal with, as well as up to three games in the diary – here’s how they all did.

Starting off with goalkeeper Pat Boyes, who is currently with Northern Premier League Premier Division side FC United of Manchester, and he had a great start to the week as he managed to keep a clean sheet in the side’s 1-0 win over Ilkeston after making crucial saves in the 25th and 73rdminute in the clash.

A 2-1 win over Macclesfield followed this, where he made another spectacular save with 20 minutes to go to earn the three points on the day, but a loss to Radcliffe wasn’t the way he envisaged leaving the week off, which was a rough loss for all involved.

Up next is Development Squad forward Will Russ, who found the back of the net once again in their 2-0 win over Matlock Town over the weekend and featured in two other games throughout the week as well, with one of them being a win over Basford United after being subbed on for fellow forward Solomon in that one.

Over in Ireland, the two lads – Barry Baggley and Drew Baker – didn’t feature much for our sister club Waterford FC apart from Baker starting in the FAI Cup tie against Cork City last week, but the Blues ended up getting knocked out of the competition after a loss against the League of Ireland side.

What’s next for our lads out on loan?

Baggley & Baker: Waterford FC v Athlone Town  – The RSC – Friday 1 September

Boyes: FC United of Manchester v Barnoldswick Town – Broadhurst Park – Saturday 2 September

Russ: Guiseley AFC v Marine AFC – Nethermoor Park – Saturday 2 September
