It’s been a good week for our young lads out on loan as one has been named player of the month for his side and another found the back of the net in a brilliant win – we’ve got all the details in this loan watch report.
Kicking off this report is midfielder Barry Baggley – who is currently with our sister club Waterford FC alongside Drew Baker – as he picked up the accolade of player of the month by the Blues’ Supporters Club after multiple MOTM-worthy performances in Ireland in the last few weeks.
The Blues are currently unbeaten in the month of August after three games, with Baggley and Baker featuring in them all, as wins over Kerry and Wexford see them sit in second in the League of Ireland First Division table only behind Galway United who they drew against last time out a week ago.
It was an odd one for the two other lads out on loan this week as Will Russ (Marine AFC) and Pat Boyes (FC United of Manchester) both faced each other on Saturday in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, with the side from Liverpool coming out on top with a convincing 5-1 win at the Marine Travel Arena.
Both players started the clash, with Russ finding the back of the net in the second half, netting the fifth goal of the afternoon for Marine after striking the ball from the edge of the area to round off a day to remember for his side before being subbed off in the 82nd minute with one eye on Saturday’s fixtures.
Much like Tuesday, both started their clashes at the weekend as Marine hosted Whitby Town and FC United had Stafford Rangers away at Marston Road Stadium. Even though the sides fell to defeats in their respective fixtures, both players played well and stayed on the pitches from start to end.
