Following the sad passing of Fleetwood Town Life Vice-President Barrie McLoughlin earlier this year, the club were honoured to assist with his wishes that his ashes be buried beneath the Highbury pitch.
Barrie looked after the Highbury turf for many years as the club groundsman, which was one of his many roles in a long association with his hometown club.
At yesterday’s moving burial ceremony, in the presence of a large number of his family and friends, Barrie was finally laid to rest by his daughter Jeanette and other close family members.
Town’s Vice-Chairman Phil Brown said “Barrie meant a huge amount to everybody at our club and to the many people who knew him.
“It was a privilege to be able to comply with his wishes regarding his final resting place and also to be able to pay my personal respects to my friend yesterday.”
May you rest in peace, Barrie.
