Head coach Scott Brown spoke to the press after his side narrowly lost out to Barnsley at Highbury on Saturday afternoon.

Town performed valiantly throughout their league clash against the Tykes on the Fylde Coast but fell to defeat right at the death as substitute Jack Aitchison netted the only goal of the game in added time.

Here’s what the gaffer had to say after the game:

On the game, Brown said…

“Losing by a last-minute goal is always hard. We managed the second half very well. We tried to play on the counter with some pace as well.

“We put Joe [Garner] on to be a bit more direct than what we’re used to. A draw would have been a fair result.

“As an overall performance from the lads, they worked extremely hard, and they always try to listen at half-time. I thought their understanding of the shape was very good.”

On the performance as a team…

As I said to the lads, it’s horrible losing last minute but they gave everything with their effort, they always give us 100%, but final third, a little bit of quality was maybe what we were missing today. We had a couple of good chances but neither of them could hit the back of the net.

“We’ve got a lot of injuries and a lot of games coming up but for us as a team, we need to make sure we’re all fit for the game on Saturday.”

On the defensive partnership of Nsiala and Devlin…

Since coming in, Toto [Nsiala] has been brilliant, he’s a calming influence. As a defender he’s powerful, he reads the game well.

“Mikey [Devlin] cruised it as well, he’s good and calm on the ball. For Mikey not to have played a professional game for almost two years, it shows you how hard he’s been working. Today he showed his quality.”
