Fleetwood United have the chance to win promotion this weekend and they line-up in UAE Third Division play-off second leg.

The Cod Army’s Dubai based sister club were formed at the start of this season as part of an international growth plan launched by Town chairman Andy Pilley.

United beat off competition from more than 150 teams to grab a place in the brand new Third Division, which is the fourth tier of football over in the quickly growing United Arab Emirates market - before winning the competition’s group stage with 8 wins out of 10 matches.

Last weekend they travelled to Abu Dhabi to face Sport Support in the first leg of the play-offs, coming out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Samuel Njangui and captain Ibrahima Badji.

And this Sunday they have the chance to secure promotion as they take a one-goal, and two away goals, into the second leg. Something joint manager Andy Collins is looking forward to.

“It’s been a fantastic season for us all so far, and we are really excited about Sunday’s game and what we could potentially achieve,” he said.

“We are confident we can gain promotion, but also are aware how quickly ties can turn, so they players will have to be at their best on Sunday.

“But we’ve prepared well for the game, the players are ready and we are going to ignore the one goal lead and just try to go and win the game. If we do that we’ll get promoted which would be some achievement. It’s something we are all looking forward to."

The second leg takes place on Sunday 8 May, kick-off 8pm, with Fleetwood current having a lead and two away goals into the tie, which will be played at home at Dubai Sports City.
