For this week’s throwback feature, we are going back to the final day of the 2015/16 Sky Bet League One season when Fleetwood Town managed to beat Saturday’s opponents, Crewe Alexandra, 2-0 at Highbury.

It was an important day for the club as they secured their spot in the league for the following season after the win over the Railwaymen on the Fylde Coast, which saw early strikes from Bobby Grant and Devante Cole seal the win.

Grant, who is known to members of the Cod Army to have a powerful strike with his left foot, picked up the ball from a corner 20 minutes into the game and picked out the top corner from 25-yards, leaving the goalkeeper no chance as it hit the underside of the crossbar and went in.

Three minutes later, Town’s lead was doubled after Cole found himself in the right spot at the right time to get on the end of David Ball’s low cross from the right to tap home from close range – scoring his second goal in as many games for the Cods.

Town XI: Maxwell, McLaughlin, Jordan, Jonsson, Pond, Bell, Ryan, Grant (Nirennold 61’), Ball (Andrew 58’), Scougall, Cole (Hunter 73’).
