What a start for Cian Hayes whilst on international duty with the Republic of Ireland Under-19s as he came off the bench in their Euro Qualifier against England and produced an assist!

The game started poorly for the side in green, with Dane Scarlett giving the Young Lions the lead five minutes in, but they came close to an equaliser soon after as Johnny Kenny hit the post.

Kenny, unfortunately, then had to be subbed off after sustaining an injury and was replaced by the young Fleetwood winger, who managed to work a golden chance to get his side back into the game.

It only took him three minutes to make an impact as he latched onto Bosun Lawal’s ball and then played it to James Abankwah who levelled the game up from close range.

It wasn't meant to be for Hayes and Ireland on the night though as a brace from Carney Chuckwuemeka - one goal either side of the half-time break - decided the tie.

The young Irish side have two more games left this week as they are set to face Portugal on Saturday 26 March (7:30pm) and then Armenia on Tuesday 29 March (7:30pm), with both games taking place at St. George’s Park in Staffordshire.

Keep up the good work, Cian!
