Fleetwood Town can confirm Midfielder Jay Matete has joined fellow Sky Bet League One side Sunderland for an substantial undisclosed fee.
Matete rose through the ranks in the Academy at Fleetwood and went on to make his mark in the first team, after making his league debut for the side against Burton in September 2020.
The 20-year-old, who was out of contract in the summer, became a constant presence in the first team after then, making 40 appearances in total, scoring two goals against Barrow in the Papa John’s Trophy and Oxford United in League One.
