As Fleetwood Town hosted top-of-the-table Sunderland on Saturday afternoon on Saturday, the club had a surprise for local superfan Beryl Laycock who ended up being mascot on the day!

Beryl, who has recently celebrated her 80th birthday and had the party at our Poolfoot Farm training complex, was thrilled to hear her name be announced over the tannoy at the ground ahead of the game but wasn’t ready for what came next.

Rod Allsworth, Town’s long-serving PA Announcer, read out the fact that she would have to get down to the pitch and be our third mascot for the day, alongside Jude Whitehead (8) from Rossall School and Quinn Thomas (5) from Shakespeare Primary.

The surprises carried on as Beryl picked up the ball and walked the squads out before having a picture with the referee’s team and the captains in the centre circle.

Hope you had a great day, Beryl!
