FLEETWOOD TOWN

Town will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Morecambe at Highbury this weekend. The two sides haven't met in a league fixture since the 2-2 draw in Sky Bet League Two back in 2014.

In the last league outing for Fleetwood, they narrowly lost out to Wigan at home, with a second-half onslaught seeing the side lose 3-2 on the day.

Danny Andrew opened the scoring via a free-kick eight minutes in, with Callum Morton netting from the spot in the second half. After the hour mark, goals from Callum Lang, Will Keane, and Curtis Tilt swayed the tie in the opposition's favour, with the full-time whistle shortly after.

Before that, The Cods had a 3-3 draw against Wycombe Wanderers, again at Highbury, that saw substitutes bring Town back into the game and earn a point. Andrew broke the deadlock in the tie, with Joe Garner, Shayden Morris, and Paddy Lane coming off the bench and making instant impacts, with the first two scoring, and the latter providing an assist.

MORECAMBE

Morecambe, like Fleetwood, have had a week away from league action due to the number of international players heading out for their respected countries.

One that may be familiar is Alfie McCalmont, who scored in the same Northern Ireland Under-21s tie that Paddy Lane featured in earlier this month. Chris Conn-Clarke came off the bench in that 4-0 win, scoring the last goal of the game through a brilliant free-kick.

The Shrimps, in their most recent fixture, dropped out of the Papa John’s Trophy after a 2-0 loss to Carlisle United at the Globe Arena. Second-half goals from Jordan Gibson and Kelvin Mellor settled the tie in Lancashire seeing the Cumbrians head back home with all three points.

Steve Robinson’s side had Emirates FA Cup success just before that fixture as they hosted Newport County in the opening round of the tournament on the 6th of this month. Aaron Wildig netted 22 minutes from the end, scoring the only goal of the game, securing the side’s spot in the Second Round of the competition.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES: SIMON GRAYSON

Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the local press ahead of Fleetwood Town's Lancashire derby against local rivals Morecambe at Highbury Stadium. Here is what he had to say in his interview:

"It's a huge game because we have to start winning football matches, we have had a tough run of games but that is no excuse, you play everyone in the division and because the division is so tight, the next game is always the most important.

“Back-to-back wins can elevate you up the table, the number of clubs in the league that have been in the premier league which we now play week in week out just shows the level of football we are playing, it's the strongest I have ever seen the division.

"To get promoted proved everyone wrong and they have had somebody blows, they had momentum at the start of the season and have dropped off a bit, but we cannot underestimate them as they do have some really good players.

“We have to make sure we are turned on because we want to win all of our local derbies - every game we analyse strengths and weaknesses of the opposition and we respect every team the same as we learn about them, no matter the distance of them to us."
