Fleetwood Town’s Foundation Phase age groups have been hard at work off the pitch recently as they have all completed a six-week white belt karate course!
In part of their multi-sport programme at Rossall School, the boys took part in the curriculum which saw them learn everything they need to advance their karate skills, so much that they were all signed off and awarded their white belts and certificates.
The club wanted an expert to help them learn throughout the course and they brought in Rachel from the Karate and Kickboxing Academy, which can be found via Facebook, who oversaw the curriculum, and she even has a tie to the club as her son plays for the Under-12s at our partner club, Fleetwood Town Juniors.
The following boys were also signed off and awarded their White Belts and Certificates;
Mylo, Alfie, Rory, Jude, Joseph W, Rhys
Under-10s: Decster, Diego, Sonny
Under-11s: Jake, Jobe, Sam K, Billy, Sam S, Harry, Oliver, Aston
Mike, Led Foundation Phase Coach at Fleetwood Town said: ‘’We would like to thank Rachel, the Sport Science Team and Rossall School, (as well as the Age Group Coaches) for continuing to provide the boys with some excellent life skills beyond football, which also transfer and have a direct impact on their game (i.e., resilience, adaptability etc.).
“The boys have shown outstanding qualities to obtain their Karate White Belts, and this will continue to enhance their understanding of our Academy mantra, ‘Develop the Person, Challenge the Player’, as they have really shown their character to learn a new discipline whilst overcoming the challenges of that journey.’’
Rachel, their Black Belt Karate Instructor, added: ‘’The boys have been fantastic throughout and as a result, they all smashed their grading assessments! I was very impressed by their improvements in just six weeks, which is phenomenal.
“I’ve been delighted to be made to feel so welcome by the boys and the staff at Fleetwood and Rossall School and look forward to delivering some more skills to the boys in the future’’.
