Fleetwood Town’s Under-18s became the North West Youth Alliance champions on Wednesday afternoon after beating Shrewsbury Town at the Shrewsbury Sports Village.
The young Cods needed just one victory from their last two games in the league to be named this year’s winners and it was a brilliant day to finish off the campaign.
Forward Enoch Takpe opened up the scoring on the day just after the half-time break as Danny Edwards drove down the right, before playing a cross into the striker’s path, who finished his chance brilliantly.
The visitors then pulled themselves back into the game three minutes later, but the tie was rounded out after a moment to remember from Cian Hayes as he capitalised on a mistake from the goalkeeper and lobbed him from 40-yards, playing it just under the crossbar.
Simon Wiles’ side have one game to go this season, which is a tie against Salford City at Highbury Stadium on Friday 14 May at 11am, where the team can finally celebrate a really successful year. Well done on this brilliant achievement lads!
