Forward Ged Garner spoke to the press after Fleetwood Town’s 2-1 win over Lincoln City in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday evening.

Garner – starting his second consecutive game in a row - opened the scoring with his first-ever league goal for the club, giving Town the lead. The 22-year-old also played a part in the build-up to Callum Camp’s match-winning goal, which secured all three points for Fleetwood.

Here’s what he had to say:

On the game…

“I thought in the first half we very dominant and I thought we played really well and then in the second half, we started off great again. As soon as they got the goal, and it got I wouldn’t say difficult for us, we dropped deep and just dealt with the pressure.

“I thought we defended well as a unit; we were very compact all the way through the game. In the first half, they didn’t know where to go and in the second half when they changed formation, it gave us a bit of a problem but we did well to see it out.

“I think the last few performances we’ve been unlucky not to win. We’ve put in a few good performances. So, when it comes to actually get the three points and actually getting it over the line, it’s just a great relief really.”

On his first league goal…

“I anticipated the second ball and it just fell for me perfectly. I just thought I’ve got to get good contact on it and see where it lands and luckily it went in the back of the net.

“I like to think I’ve got different types of finishes in my locker; I like to see myself as a good finisher anyway. I’m just happy to get off the mark really, any goal, anything, a tap in, as long as I score, I’m not really too bothered.

“When the manager came in, he said if you impress in training, you’ll get a chance so every day in training I went in to impress. I’ve been close in the past (to starting a match) and not quite got it, come on a few times, but now, when a new manager comes in it’s a new start. You’ve got to impress in training, and you’ll get a chance and it’s what I’ve done.”
