Interim head coach Simon Wiles spoke to the press after his sides 0-0 draw at home to Northampton Town in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday night at Highbury Stadium.

After a positive start to the game from Wiles’ side, the Cod Army’s efforts weren’t enough to break the deadlock after a stubborn Northampton defence kept the score the same through a cagey affair the remainder of the 90 and the points were shared.

Here’s what he had to say:

On the game…

“I think the positives are that we have again got another clean sheet, we constantly talk about these building blocks that we are creating and obviously it’s another one tonight we have to make sure the chances we talk about, we have to keep creating chances and taking them when we can.

“In the first half we were a lot more on the front foot, we were aggressive in our press and I thought there were some really good chances for us.”

On building momentum…

“The players are fully aware in the areas we need to improve; we’re always having conversations in ways they can get better at their game and keep improving. I’ll have a much bigger smile on my face when we get that first three points, that’s two clean sheets in a row and it gives us a good platform to build on.

“The confidence in the players you can see it shining through the backline, it’s not just corners against Northampton it’s throw-ins, free kicks from the half-way line the boys had to be responsible for their jobs and they definitely showed it tonight and it’s only a matter of time before we start converting and picking up three points.”

On constantly learning in his current role…

“I learned a lot from the Hull game in the cup, and obviously conceding from that was the first thing we addressed and to say the players have taken the message on well and they have taken responsibility.

“Every day I’m learning about myself and the role and I’m getting to know the players so much more on a personal level. Me and Steve Macauley are really using that to our advantage we’re getting to know all the individuals and how we can help them in their development so we can all get a victory and build on the clean sheets.”
