Vassell: If we play attacking football, we will score

Forward Kyle Vassell sat down with the media on Thursday afternoon ahead of Town's trip down south to face Plymouth Argyle.

Vassell – who joined the Cod Army on loan in January – got off the mark when he scored Town’s first goal in their 3-1 win over Doncaster Rovers at Highbury on Tuesday. Now, the forward is looking for more and is hoping to add to his tally on Saturday.

Here’s what Kyle had to say in his pre-match press conference:

On recent form…

“We’ve been playing well; the recent results haven’t necessarily gone along with the performances have been. We’ve been quite unlucky as we’ve always created chances so I’m glad we’ve put the run behind us and picked up a win. It’s a marker in the ground and we will go from there.

“Saturday will be a good game, I think a lot of our games will end up being good one because, as I’ve said in the past, I couldn’t believe how good the squad was when I arrived so I believe it will be a good game.

“Now I’ve got one, I can say this is what I do, I score goals and if people start to believe that it’s a snowball effectively. If we play attacking football, we will score. That’s the way I want to play, and I believe that’s the way the manager wants to play as well.”

On the striker partnership…

“That’s the thing about being a striker, Paddy [Madden] will probably say the same thing. As long as you are in the right areas and the ball keeps coming to you, we can both hit the back of the net, like we did on Tuesday.

“With strikers, it’s an instinctual thing. In games, you always revert back to your instincts. If you want to put a ball somewhere and there is someone in that position who wants to receive it, that’s when great partnerships arise.

“I think we’ve already built up a partnership, me and Paddy. In the first couple of games, we weren’t creating that many chances even though we were playing well. He knows where I want the ball, and I know where he wants the ball, and we have that respect for each other.”
