Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press after his side's 3-1 win over Doncaster Rovers at Highbury on Tuesday evening.

Town's three goals - starting with Kyle Vassell, then record-breaker Paddy Madden, followed up by a brilliant strike from distance by Danny Andrew - secured Grayson's first win in charge of Town in a convincing performance at Highbury.

Here's what Simon had to say:

On the performance...

“As you can imagine, the dressing room is quite buoyant, it’s been a while since they’ve had that feeling in there and it was a really good performance from start to finish.

“When you look at the game, I think we went a goal down against the run of play but the biggest thing for me was the character that they showed - they didn’t let it affect them. A lot of team put their heads down and think they are going to lose but we didn’t as we responded well.

“We played some good football, knocked it around, and we were a threat with the front two. Overall, the players carried out the plan, pressing in certain areas and going on the counterattack as well. Mainly though, we played with a real belief and purpose.”

On the formation choice…

“We didn’t look like we were going to concede on many occasions so you could say that everything tonight was perfect. We got the goals, you always want your strikers to get on the score sheet, the midfield players competed and used the ball really well, and the defence was nice and solid.

“We played this style on Saturday and didn’t play how we wanted to play in it, but tonight we did. With Charlie Mulgrew coming back into the team, we were fantastic on the ball. He was playing alongside Harrison Holgate, who has been outstanding in the last two games with Callum Connolly.

“I always like playing with two up front and we were working with both Paddy and Kyle yesterday on some combination plays. Paddy was delighted to see his goal go in, as it took an eternity to get the ball under control, but he eventually got it in.”
