Defender Danny Andrew sat down with the media on Thursday afternoon and previewed Fleetwood Town’s Lancashire derby against Morecambe at Mazuma Stadium.

Andrew, who has worn the captain’s armband multiple times this season, has featured in the majority of the club’s fixtures this year and is sitting on six goals for the season – third highest in all competitions from full-back.

Here’s what Danny had to say:

On the upcoming clash against Morecambe…

“The three points are massive every game whether you are at the top or bottom of the table, it’s the biggest thing in football. We’re just going to go out every game, try our best, and aim to push ourselves up the table.

“People will be looking at the game and will probably be thinking about the cliché of it being a ‘three-pointer’ but the reality is that they beat us at our place and we will be looking to beat them at theirs. They will be thinking that they are capable of beating us and us the same so it’s going to be an interesting battle come Saturday."

On the current position in the league…

“It’s a positive that we are now out of the bottom four, having been in there for a couple of weeks, but it’s all about us making sure we stay out of there now and progress up the table. We want to go on an unbeaten run and take it game by game to make sure we climb further up the table.

“There is a happy atmosphere around the camp, as it would be after the last two results. We’re still at the wrong end of the table so it’s not time to relax and come off it, we’re still going to be working as hard as we have been and will hopefully continue the recent run of form."

On the young players coming through…

“I think some of the younger players have featured in enough games to have a voice on the pitch – their ages are irrelevant. It’s easy for the young lads to come into the game and be quiet and not express themselves as they would do at the training ground, but they’ve been fantastic in terms of their work rates, and we need to continue that going forwards.

“The younger lads have been fantastic for us this season. Every player has been through the stage of coming through as a young lad and have had to get their heads down to work hard and get their place secured within the team, and you have to say that the younger players in our team have done that well this year.”
