As David Ball’s famous goal at Highbury has been in the media again recently, it’s only fair that we go back to the game he scored it in for this week’s Throwback Thursday.

The Cods welcomed local rivals Preston North End late on in the 2014/15 season, with just a month to go until the final game, which was a 2-1 win over Port Vale in May that year.

Lilywhites midfielder Daniel Johnson opened the scoring the first ten minutes of the game but, after that, it was all Fleetwood until the final whistle.

Even though Town had created chances up to this point, it was Ball who was able to level the game up late on.

The forward pulled off some trickery on the edge of the opposition box, sending the defender the wrong way, and hitting a superb-chipped effort over the top of Sam Johnstone and into the top-left corner of the goal.

It was all-guns-blazing until the final whistle then for the Cods as both Ashley Hunter and Ball had chances to seal the win on the day, but a crucial block by Scott Laird ensured the spoils were shared between the two Lancashire sides.

Town XI: Maxwell (GK), Roberts (Ball 74’), Pond, Schumacher, Morris, Chicksen (Hunter 46’), Sarcevic, Proctor, Hornby-Forbes, Jordan, Haughton.
