Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad walked away 4-0 winners after beating Hurst Green in Clitheroe's Football Festival at Shawbridge on Sunday afternoon.
Stephen Crainey’s side went into the fixture against the West Lancashire Football League side knowing that they needed to score four goals to lead the group stage after three games and they certainly did that.
Our Development Squad started the game with a high tempo, knowing what they had to achieve, and they managed to put themselves in the lead just before the break, thanks to a goal by a trialist.
In the second half, that same player continued to press and completed his hat-trick just before the end of the game, with Chris Conn-Clarke also grabbing a goal in the game.
The result was a massive boost to the goal difference for the young Cods, and because they managed to keep a clean sheet on the day, they picked an extra point, which might be the difference at the end of the competition.
With this result, Town booked their place in the final of the Clitheroe Football Festival, which is against Accrington Stanley. The date and kick-off time for this fixture is still to be determined. Details on the game will be released in due course.
Town XI: Trialist (GK), Trialist, Feeney, Teale, Trialist, Boyle, Raffie, Johnston, Conn-Clarke, Trialist, McMillan.
