Fleetwood Town’s Under 18s carried on their brilliant start to the season as they made it three wins in a row after beating Accrington Stanley 5-0 in the Youth Alliance at Poolfoot Farm.
Simon Wiles’ side showcased another positive performance on Saturday morning as goals from Cian Hayes, Joe Collins and Enoch Takpe saw the side continue their unbeaten start to the season.
Town started the game on the front foot as Collins spotted the run of Sam Bird in the wing, played the ball through the Accrington back line, before the full-back passed the ball across the six-yard box to Shaun Sithole, who had his shot saved from close-range. The goalkeeper pushed the ball away from his goal and Hayes was alert, converting a tap-in, opening the scoring.
The Under 18s carried on the pressure and doubled their lead soon after as Billy Batch played a low-driven cross into the box, towards Collins, who cleverly flicked the ball past the goalkeeper.
The side took the two-goal lead into the break but managed to add a third just three minutes into the second half, as Sithole was fouled in the box, earning a penalty, which Takpe smashed it into the back of the net.
Wing-play was the way forward for the young Cods, as that is how they scored their fourth goal. After a corner, Ben Thompson passed the ball to Akiel Raffie, who crossed the ball into the box and Takpe headed it home.
A fifth goal followed for the Cod Army just before the end as Collins capitalised on a poor back pass by the opposition. He then ran at the goalkeeper, took the ball round him, and tapped it into an empty net.
The Under 18s are back in action on Saturday 3 October as they are set to travel to face Preston North End in another Youth Alliance fixture.
