Head Coach Joey Barton spoke to the press after his side beat Plymouth Argyle 5-1 in a Sky Bet League One fixture at Highbury Stadium.

Barton’s side – who beat Bristol Rovers last time out – continued their recent run of form after Sam Finley, Callum Camps, Wes Burns and Charlie Mulgrew all got on the score sheet in a convincing win over Argyle.

Here’s what he had to say…

On the match…

“We’re really pleased with the result, disappointing to not get the clean sheet because I thought the performance warranted that.

“There was a lot of pleasing aspects of our game as we watched on from the side-line, it’s very, very rare in this division to have the ability after 60 minutes to think about the next game as we welcome Sunderland to Highbury next Friday.

“I spoke to our lads before the game and I said if we reach the standard of our performance that we demand from ourselves it’s going to be very, very tough for sides in our division to stay with that where that was proven today.”

On individual performances…

“It’s tough to single out any individual because I could go right through the team and be waxing miracles about everybody’s performances.

“Sam Finley in the first half was unplayable where the goal he got was the cherry on the top from an all-round brilliant midfield performance.

“Rossiter coming back for his first start was brilliant, but you know I could go through the whole side, Campsy has weighed in with his goals again where it was a really dominant performance from the start to finish.”

On the club’s ambitions…

“We are building a real nice side with great balance to it and as I said the most disappointing thing is that we can’t have fans inside of Highbury to get behind us because I think this team has a lot more to come from it.

“All the lads are a pleasure to coach because they are very receptive and they execute well on a match day which is rare but the last couple of months our lads have really gone through the motions as a team regarding understanding structures and their roles and responsibilities which boost our results’ profile.

“This could be an exciting season for Fleetwood as we intend on being better than what we were last season. We want to get fans back in this season, but we want the fans to strap themselves in because this could be a very, very exciting ride as a Fleetwood Town fan.”
