Winger Wes Burns spoke to the press after Saturday afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League One at The Alexandra Stadium.

Burns – who moved further up the pitch on Boxing Day after the return of Tom Edwards - opened the scoring in the game when he latched onto a ball over the top to capitalise on miscommunication amongst the Crewe backline.

Here’s what he had to say:

On the game…

“I think we could obviously play a little bit better to take those decisions out of his hands. If we were a little bit more clinical when we had our chances the game’s probably out of sight anyway. The officials have missed big decisions in the game today.

“It’s disappointing not to come away with three points. The wind is blustery, the pitch isn’t great, it’s just one of those December games. We have to pick ourselves up and we’re looking forward to Tuesday’s game now where we can put it right and hopefully get three points.”

On the goal…

“It’s one of those ones where I kind of messed up the chance myself. I took a loose touch, and the defender has come across but I think he’s waiting for the keeper to come and collect it so I’ve just sort of pounced on that opportunity and hooked my foot around it and it’s gone it so I’ll take those.

“I’m more attack-minded. I’ve always been an attacker growing up, but I can fill in whenever I’m needed but I do prefer playing further forward. Now Tom (Edwards) is back fit I know if I want to play on the front line, I need to add goals and assists and obviously today I’ve got a goal so hopefully, I can stay on that front line.”
