Morris: Nice to get off the mark

Midfielder Josh Morris spoke to the club after scoring the opening goal in Fleetwood Town’s 2-0 win over Stockport County on Saturday afternoon.

Fleetwood Town comfortably won their second pre-season fixture of the summer against The Hatters – with Morris and Paddy Madden scoring on the day.

Morris was vital in the Cod Army’s win over Stockport in Carrington, and he is just happy to be back playing, and even happier to have opened his tally for pre-season.

Here is what he had to say…

On his goal…

"The ball was slipped through and I took a good touch, the keeper came out and I just slid it underneath him. It was a nice finish and nice to get off the mark.

“Fingers crossed I can build on this in the upcoming season. I always try my best to score and help assist some others so hopefully that will set me up now for the season”

On being back on the pitch…

“We’ve had a couple of weeks on the training pitch but it’s always nice to get back out on the pitch on a Saturday and even score a goal.

“It was a good workout and more importantly, a professional performance. We passed the ball round well and took our chances when we needed to.

“We’ve got some good friendlies coming up so it’s all about hard work now as we prep for the upcoming season.”

On his fitness…

“I feel fine after that to be honest. We’ve worked hard in the close season, obviously we were in for the play-offs, so we’ve not had that much of a break so it’s good to just get back going.

“It’s nice to get the games up and running again, so you aren’t on the training pitch all the time. You get the feel back in your legs and I think it’s much better than training.”
