Fleetwood Town’s new defensive signing Morgan Boyes explains that he has a calm style of play and looks forward to getting started with the club.

The 19-year-old, who joins the Cod Army from Premier League champions Liverpool, has signed a season-long loan deal to keep him on the Fylde Coast for the 2020/21 season.

Chester-born Boyes has already represented Wales at the under 19 level, captaining the side, and has also made his first-team debut at Liverpool but he is looking to build on those experiences at Fleetwood.

We spoke to Morgan just after signing and here is what he had to say…

On the loan move…

“I’m excited to start and play men’s football for the first time for a great club like Fleetwood Town. Playing in the under 23s at Liverpool is good but it’s not the real game. I want to move into the league and get going with the group of lads that we have here now.

“It’s going to be a challenge coming here but I know that and I want to get going straight away. I was in training, my first day today, and there were a few characters in the squad. I think everything went well and luckily everyone was fine with me.”

On his current experience…

“To make my debut for Liverpool, and for it to be an important game in the cup, was surreal for a young lad. That is just the start for me as I want to move on and get more.

“Winning the FA Youth Cup with them was the start of the push to win trophies, and it was with a good group of lads who saw it through until the end. The final was a great game to win and everyone was buzzing with that.

“To captain your country, at any level, is what you dream of as a young kid, so I hope that I can carry on doing that in the future.

On his play style…

“I’m a good solid defender. I’d like to say I’m a calm defender who likes to play and build up from the back. I don’t like to just get rid of it, I’d rather just get the ball down and get the ball up the pitch.

“I like to keep it calm, and prevent silly risks on the ball. Off the pitch though, I’d say that I’m a bit of a character but that will grow as I get to know the new set of lads.”
