Fleetwood Town’s under 18s carried on their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

Simon Wiles’ side started the game brilliantly, forging the first chance after just five minutes, as Shayden Morris broke through Tranmere’s backline but his left-footed strike went just wide.

Fleetwood continued to pack the pressure on the home side as Morris got in behind the defence yet again and was dragged down in the box midway through the second half. He converted the penalty and gave Wiles’ side the lead.

Tranmere came out the better side in the second half and Town were caught out. James Hill thought he had won the ball in Fleetwood’s box but the referee judged him to have made contact with the attacker, leading to a penalty – which Tranmere put wide.

Wiles made two changes after this, bringing on Carl Johnston and Enoch Takpe, which allowed his side to take back control of the game.

With 15 minutes to go, Jamie Cooke found himself in some space and tried his luck from the edge of the Tranmere box, and even though the goalkeeper got a hand to it, his effort flew into the back of the net.

Next up for the under 18s is a Clarets Cup fixture against Salford City on Tuesday 10th September (1pm kick-off).
