Fleetwood Town are pleased to confirm the signing of defender Jimmy Dunne on a season-long loan from Premier League side Burnley.

The 21-year-old – who spent the second half of last season on loan at beaten play-off finalists Sunderland – will join up with Joey Barton’s squad immediately, and signed just before Monday’s 5pm transfer deadline.

The Irishman featured in pre-season for Sean Dyche’s side, coming on as a substitute against the Cod Army in The Clarets’ 2-0 victory.

Dunne has enjoyed successful loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Hearts and more recently Sunderland, and will wear the number 12 shirt whilst at Highbury.

Head coach, Joey Barton said on his latest signing: “We are really pleased to boost our defensive ranks with the signing of Jimmy on loan for the season.

“Despite his young age, he has a lot of experience and knows the division having spent time at Sunderland last season.

“We’re sure he will add to what is a really exciting squad, and we look forward to seeing his qualities in a Fleetwood Town shirt.”
