Fleetwood Town’s Under 18s carried on their recent run of strong form in the Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday, as they came away 1-0 winners over Carlisle United at Poolfoot Farm.

Simon Wiles’ side went into the game having won their opening four Youth Alliance League matches as well as their opening Cup match against Mansfield Town. They started well and piled the pressure on from the first whistle as both Carl Johnston and Barry Baggley created chances early on, but the Cumbrians defended well and kept the game goalless.

Cian Hayes came off the bench with 25 minutes to go and changed the whole dynamic of the game. His skills were on show straight away and was brought down for a free-kick, which led to the goal.

Baggley – who scored two free-kicks against Preston North End – stepped over the ball and whipped it into the box, towards James Hill, who put it past the Carlisle keeper.

The Under 18s next fixture sees the side face fellow high-flyers Salford City at Poolfoot Farm on Saturday 19 October (10:30am k/o).
