On Saturday 7th September 2013, Fleetwood Town welcomed Torquay United to Highbury Stadium, and beat them comfortably 4-1 - thanks to goals by Antoni Sarcevic, Jamille Matt and Matty Blair.

The match against Torquay was Town’s sixth game of the 2013/14 Sky Bet League Two season, and it was one that started perfectly.

Town bombarded the Gulls goal, with goalkeeper Martin Rice saving headers from Nathan Pond and Jeff Hughes. He wasn’t able to save the next chance as a corner found Antoni Sarcevic went straight into the back of the net.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors in the 37th minute, as Sarcevic was fed the ball by Hughes before drilling a long-range strike past Rice – leaving him no chance.

Skipper Ryan Cresswell almost got onto the scoresheet just after the half, but a fingertip save from the Torquay keeper kept the score at 2-0 for the time being.

On the hour mark, Town’s lead was extended to three as Rice didn’t deal with Gareth Evans’ corner, leaving Jamille Matt in plenty of space to score his third goal in just two games.

Torquay managed to get in on the scoring with a minute to go as substitute Elliot Benyon scored a consolation goal for the visitors. The joy didn’t last long though as winger Blair fired home in the 90th minute to finish the game off.

Town XI: S.Davies; C.McLaughlin, D.Howell, N.Pond, R.Cresswell, J.Brown; G.Evans (M.Blair 89’), A.Sarcevic (S.Murdoch 81’), S.Schumacher, J.Hughes; J.Matt (D.Ball 81’).

Unused subs: D.Lucas, M.Roberts, L,Hogan, J.Parkin
