Fleetwood Town forward Paddy Madden spoke to the club during their week-long pre-season training camp in Vilamoura.

Madden – who scored 19 goals in all competitions last season for the Cod Army – is amongst 21 players to be on the tour in Portugal, and with the weather conditions hitting high temperatures, it’s been the perfect conditions for the players to blow away those cobwebs.

Here is what the 29-year-old had to say when he spoke to the club’s iFollow.

On the week so far in Portugal…

“It has been a tough week, especially in this heat we’ve had over the last few years. As players we know it’s going to be beneficial to us.

“There have been some intense training sessions this week and as I said earlier, it doesn’t help when the weather is like what it has been and know it’s all in the bank – we are getting fitter every day and that will only help when the games start again when we come home.

“Personally I am feeling good, I am feeling sharp and I am blowing the cobwebs away as for seven weeks we have been off and enjoying a break after a long old season. It’s getting the body going again playing football.”

On the new signings…

“The new lads have come in and done well and that’s another thing over here, it’s about us all getting to know each other, and overall it has been good so far. Hopefully we will have some down time over the week to get to know them more off the field.

“They have come in this pre-season, and those players show the Chairman’s and the club’s intent this season. The gaffer has brought in some top players and I know we are going to give it a right good go and be up there at the top of the table.”

On the preparations ahead of the 2019/20 season…

“As players we want to be playing in the games on a Saturday and when there’s only so much training you do, you just look forward to those occasions.

“The gaffer has arranged some good games for pre-season and that will just move those weeks quicker to the start of the season, and that opening game away at Peterborough.”
