Souttar: "I feel there is some unfinished business"

Fleetwood Town’s sixth signing of the summer Harry Souttar rejoined the club on Thursday afternoon on a season-long loan from Championship side Stoke City.

The central defender featured 11 times for the Cod Army last campaign, scoring the one goal - which was against Accrington Stanley in the 1-0 Lancashire Derby win at the Wham Stadium in March.

Souttar stated that there is some unfinished business at the club when he spoke to the club’s official iFollow after putting pen to paper.

“I have a massive smile on my face and I am absolutely delighted to be here,” said Souttar.

“I knew there was a possibility of coming back here and when I spoke to the manager (Nathan Jones) at Stoke City about it, he said I could go out on loan and this was the only place I wanted to come. I missed some games at the end through injury and suspension, and I feel there is some unfinished business.

“I want to give something back to the coaching staff and the manager who put faith in me. I am just delighted to be here and now I can’t wait to get started.”

The 20-year-old made an instant impact at Highbury when in his first game in the side, he helped keep a clean sheet against Charlton Athletic – the side who were promoted to the Championship following their win over Sunderland at Wembley in May.

Souttar believes he can add something to this current squad, and help them be successful in the 2019/20 campaign.

He added: “One of my aims is to come here and help the team progress.

“The signings that the club have made over the summer have the squad looking strong and there’s lots of competition for places. I think if we can start off well, we can go and have a successful season.

“I have had my first session and it was good to be back out there, it was like I hadn’t left. The lads all look sharp and ready to go and if every one buys into that ethos of one team, we will go on to have a great season.”
