Fleetwood Town’s first team coach Clint Hill spoke after he saw his side win their first match of pre-season against Wrexham on Friday evening.

The Cod Army have been back for pre-season for just over a week now, and it has seen the players put through their paces with fitness drills, as well as ball work at the club’s training ground, Poolfoot Farm.

Hill – who saw Town come away 1-0 winners against visitors Wrexham – was pleased with the result, the performance and acknowledged that it was a bigger positive everybody came away without picking up any injuries.

Here is what Clint had to say after the match:

On the performance and pre-season so far…

“We are very pleased. Everybody who played got 45 minutes against a good team in Wrexham, which is great as it has been a tough ten days for the lads. Another positive for us as staff is that nobody has picked up any injuries.

“It’s kind of tradition that in the first game you start off with 45 minutes, get the legs back where they should be on the pitch, but it’s also about getting your touch back as well as movements on the pitch. The lads will be feeling sore tomorrow after that run-out, but now it’s important we progress them slowly as more pre-season matches come along.

“Michael [Fowler] had a great day. He is buzzing in the dressing room after scoring his first goal for the club and after playing and scoring three in the morning in a Under 18s v Development Squad match, he’s very happy. I thought he gave us impetus late on and it’s great to see the young lads play well.”

On Danny Andrew. Josh Morris and Conor McAleny…

“Both had very positive performances. The two have been with us since day one of pre-season so to see them get a game and settle in, whilst looking well in the team. The two are great in the dressing room too so again that is another positive for us this season.

“Conor played in that number nine role on his own and I thought that he did really well. He came to show for the ball a lot and was always positive whenever he got the ball. He will improve more as pre-season goes along.”

On the trip to Portugal…

“It will not be a holiday for the lads going on the trip. There will be double session days and triple sessions days but it will be a good slog for the players.

“We will probably do a lot of our pre-season work out there, both tactical and physical, but the lads will enjoy it, even if it might be a tough one.”
