Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce the signing of striker Ched Evans from Sheffield United for a substantial, undisclosed six-figure fee.

The Cod Army have completed their ninth signing of the summer and swooped to sign the highly sought after striker, who scored 18 goals in all competitions on loan at Highbury last season.

Evans, 30, has put pen-to-paper on an initial two-year contract, with the club holding an option for a further year for the former Wales international.

The return of Evans will also see him wear the coveted number nine shirt for the club, as he did whilst on loan from The Blades last season.

Head coach Joey Barton said on his new striker: “Ched has been our number one target all summer, and to get the deal done is huge credit to everybody at the football club.

“Everyone saw the impact he had on and off the pitch last season, and I speak on behalf of the players and staff who are delighted to see him back at Fleetwood Town.

“To sign a player of Ched’s ability permanently is a real sign of what we’re building here, and we can’t wait to get him onto the pitch and scoring goals.”
