Fleetwood Town make the visit to South Yorkshire tomorrow to take on promotion hopefuls Barnsley at Oakwell in Sky Bet League One.

The Cod Army have played the Tykes on seven previous occasions in the past. Five of those matches have come in League One, with the teams currently locked at two wins a-piece, and a draw which came in the first meeting in 2014.

The sides have also met in the Semi-Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy back in 2016, where both legs ended 1-1, with Barnsley progressing 4-2 on penalties.

Let’s take a look at three of those previous encounters…

First meeting

It was not until September 2014 that Town met Barnsley for the first time. The game ended in a 0-0 stalemate, with Josh Morris’ late free-kick almost winning the game for the Cod Army, but he was denied by the crossbar.

Classic Match

Fleetwood’s first ever visit to Oakwell ended in a 2-1 victory back in February 2015. Peter Ramage put Barnsley into an early lead, but goals from Conor McLaughlin and Liam McAlinden gave the Cod Army victory in South Yorkshire.

Last time we met

It was a disappointing afternoon for Joey Barton’s side as despite taking the lead through Harrison Biggins’ early goal, Town were defeated at 3-1 at Highbury. Jacob Brown, Kieffer Moore and Mamadou Thiam scored to seal the win for the Tykes. Can the Cod Army get revenge this time around?

Fancy cheering on Joey and the boys this Saturday in our next match against Barnsley?
