Fresh from scoring his fifth goal for Fleetwood Town, striker Paddy Madden spoke to the media after Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Rochdale.

Below are the key points from Paddy’s post-match press conference.

On the mood in the dressing room post-match…

“The dressing room is kicking in there, the boys are happy, yeah we’ll enjoy tonight but we’ll get back to working hard on Thursday. We won’t get too carried away as there is still a lot of work to do but this is a step in the right direction, a very good win.”

On the victory…

“You know you’re going to get a kind of edge to games because the two of us are down the bottom and need points so it’s going to be a scrappy affair but we showed what we’re all about in the second half. I thought we countered on them well, Rochdale are a good side and Keith Hill’s teams are always hard to beat but to come here and win 2-0 is big.”

On his goal…

“We just had to keep focused because in long periods where a player is down it’s a distraction but I thought after that we came out the traps a bit better.

“I think Kyle (Dempsey) beat his man so I got into the box and I did what I always do and gambled. The keepers saved it and I’ve managed to knock it in.”

On the impact of John Sheridan…

“The gaffer here is a clever man and he’s a very good manager. You can see the way we look hard to beat, we don’t look like we’re going to concede.

“He’s worked well with us and as a striker he gives you that freedom. The gaffer wants us to express ourselves in the final third and use our energy more cleverly and that’s the reward you’re going to get. You’ll have strikers more prepared and aware in the box come the end of the game.”

On two clean sheets in a row…

“Yeah we can take a lot of confidence, we have two clean sheets in a row. The back five have thrown their bodies on the line and big credit deserves to go to the defenders for the last two games because they’ve been magnificent.

“It’s a team game, we defend from the front but you have to give a special mention to the defence. Some very important blocks there and throwing their bodies on the line and that’s what you need in this kind of predicament in the league.

“When you need the points you need your defence to jump in the way like that. They’ve been magnificent and a lot of credit goes to them."
