Head coach Joey Barton has given his reaction after Friday night's 4-0 pre-season victory at Salford City.

Goals from Paddy Madden, Conor McAleny, Ashley Nadesan and Harrison Biggins gave Barton his first victory as Town boss.

Barton’s thoughts on the game…

"I am pleased, the main thing is that everybody has through unscathed and that's the most important thing at this stage of the year and the players are taking on board what we are telling them on the training ground, and that's all pleasing.

"The lads have been absolutely first class since we walked in the building and have applied themselves in the physical and the fitness side of training and are now taking on board the technical stuff.

"There's still a lot of work to do, but there's so many positives to take out of tonight's performances."

Barton on the encouraging signs…

"We've put four goals past what will be a very good conference side next year, and they've shown ambition to get out of the league and are no mugs by any means.

"Tonight there was a lot of young player on the pitch with Ashley Nadesan, and he isn't young by age, but he is young by league experience. I felt he's helped his cause tonight along with Nathan Sheron, who I thought was excellent in that number four role.”

Barton on the good test and the positive plays…

"We've done more on structure and set play because we felt that it was a bone of contention from the team last year, but we are working on those and there's still a lot of work to do on them.

"From our prospective, everybody has got through the game, everybody has got minutes and we've had a 17 and 18 year-old sat on the bench for experience and for them to take it all in because they are all good enough.

"Ash Hunter came on and showed us what he's all about and so did Wes Burns, so it's really pleasing because they naturally get disappointed from not being in the starting eleven and the game being on the T.V."

"There response was first class and I'm happy with the goals we scored and the calm and patience that we saw tonight."
