New signing Ched Evans said joining Fleetwood Town was a ‘no brainer’, after he completed a season-long-loan move from Sheffield United.

The 29-year-old became Joey Barton’s eighth signing of the summer on Friday, and trained for the first team with his new teammates at Poolfoot Farm.

A clinical striker in both the Championship and League One, Evans says he is ready to hit the ground running at Highbury.

“Coming to Fleetwood is a great opportunity for me to get out, play games, and score goals and I feel like I’m ready to do that,” said Evans.

“Once I spoke to the manager he told me his philosophy and how he wants to go about it, it was a no brainer for me.

“I spent the first few weeks of pre-season at Sheffield United and it went well. I had my first session here this morning and the lads have been great, there’s a really good atmosphere around the place already.”

The Welsh international becomes part of an impressive looking forward line, with the former Chesterfield man excited to work with the current crop of attackers.

“I’m buzzing for the season to get going and the league is anybody’s, and when you look around our squad that the manager is putting together, you look and think we can have a right go this season.

“You need competition in football in any department to be successful. I look forward to working with the other strikers and the team.

“The main thing for us is at the end of the week is to get a win on the board.”
