Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce that Craig Morgan has been appointed club captain.

Morgan – who joined the club this summer from Wigan Athletic – will lead Joey Barton’s side into the new Sky Bet League One season, which starts on August 4th at home to AFC Wimbledon.

The 33-year-old has previously been captain at three of his former clubs, Peterborough United, Rotherham United and Wigan.

As well as Morgan being appointed captain, fellow defender Ashley Eastham has been named as vice-captain.

Head coach Joey Barton said: “Craig has won multiple promotions, and you can already see the standing he has within the group in such a short space of time. He is a natural leader.

“We’re intent in creating real leadership, with Craig spearheading that as captain, with Ash Eastham appointed vice-captain too.”

Craig Morgan added: “It’s an honour for me to captain this club, and I’m delighted the manager asked me to take up the role.

“I’ve been captain before, and it’s something I’ve enjoyed doing. The lads are coming together nicely after a good couple of weeks at home and now in Budapest – it’s set to be an exciting season.”
