Maguire keen to build on successful Austria training camp

17 July 2017

Fresh from scoring the winning goal in Saturday’s friendly over FK Jablonec, Joe Maguire is looking to build on a strong week in Austria.

Town spent seven days in Kossen, preparing hard for the new Sky Bet League One season, which is just under three weeks away.

“It’s been an extremely good week,” said the former Liverpool man.

“I came in at Christmas, so I didn’t have a pre-season with the lads so this has been a good chance for me to prove myself to the manager and his staff.

“I’m hoping to work hard and hopefully I can get more minutes than I did last season.”

After signing from the Premier League giants in the winter transfer window, Maguire made three appearances for the Cod Army including in the memorable away win at Scunthorpe.

“The hard work carries on when we get home,” added the 21 year-old.

“We’ve got games thankfully coming up, I think that’s the main thing. Hopefully we’re going to see the quality in our side and the new signings coming through so we can see what they can do. There are exciting times ahead for the group and the club.”

Maguire is no stranger to scoring free-kicks too, and ensured the travelling Cod Army returned home from Austria with a win.

“I practice them quite a lot actually!

“It was a last-minute winner so the feeling and emotion was still very high.”
