We profile our new signing after joining from Liverpool

Following the news of Joe Maguire’s arrival at Highbury, here’s everything you need to know about the former Liverpool man.

The 20-year-old, a left back by trade, had been at the Reds since the age of nine, working his way through their academy and into the first team squad in the 2015/16 season.

His strong performances for the U18s and U21s the previous season earned him a place on Liverpool’s pre-season tour, making his debut in a 4-0 win over the Thailand Premier XI.

Whilst his professional debut came during a loan spell at Leyton Orient in 2015, his first competitive appearance for Liverpool came in a 2-2 draw with Exeter in the FA Cup in January 2016.

Known for his stamina as well as his crossing ability, Maguire is a forward thinking defender whose positivity going up the pitch can pose a real challenge to the opposition.

Standing at 5”9’ (179cm), the former Liverpool defender has a versatility about his game, with an ability to play anywhere along the back four.

He says his idol growing up was legendary full back Roberto Carlos, and would love to emulate the Brazilian by winning the Champions League or World Cup.

Away from the pitch, Maguire enjoys to play golf, and says that if he wasn’t a footballer he’d be a coach.
