Markus Schwabl says that progressing to the next round of the Checkatrade Trophy is important for the club.

Town host League Two side Chesterfield on Tuesday night, with Schwabl having featured in all three matches in the competition so far this season.

With Schwabl’s side unbeaten in the last six home matches in all competitions, he’s hoping for another positive result on Tuesday.

“It’s an important game for us,” said the 27-year-old.

“Mentally, we normally have around six days to prepare, but now this came has come around quickly and we need to be ready.

“We have watched some videos of them and I think they are a good footballing side. It will be a tough game, however we are prepared and ready to give it our best.

“Their league position doesn’t have any influence, this is a cup match and league form doesn’t matter. We are level teams tomorrow and we will have to see what happens on the pitch.

“We want to win and progress.”

Schwabl has seen his side win all three games in the competition so far, and has gained valuable minutes on the pitch too.

“These games are a good chance for players to get playing time,” he added.

“I will be taking this game like any other match, and hoping to get more minutes under my belt.

“The young players who have come in are all very talented, and as a senior player, you don’t need to carry them through a match.

“My role changes because there are young players around you. You have to talk more on the pitch but I am comfortable with that.

“They all know what to do so it doesn’t matter who is on the pitch, but it’s important that we go and win on Tuesday.”
