Goalkeeper hails fans ahead of Peterborough clash

Goalkeeper Alex Cairns says the fans are ‘needed more than ever’ as Fleetwood Town enter the final four matches of the season.

Town currently sit in third place in the table, just seven points off Bolton who are second behind already promoted Sheffield United.

The former Leeds and Rotherham stopper – who was also nominated for the Sky Bet League One March player of the month – has praised the fans ahead of Friday’s trip to Peterborough.

“We need them now more than ever as we enter the final part on what has been an amazing season,” said Cairns.

“The fans have been brilliant all season and with only four games left, they can play a huge part.

“They are our 12th man and they lift the team, even if we don’t play as well as we can they are behind us and give us huge support which we are grateful for.”

Cairns has only played in the first team since October after being given his chance by head coach Uwe Rosler.

Since then, the Cod Army have never lost in consecutive games and Cairns so far has kept an amazing 14 clean sheets.

“It’s been an amazing season for us and it’s not over yet,” added the 24 year old.

“We have done brilliant all season and I can’t thank the gaffer enough for giving me the chance.

“The clean sheets aren’t just me, they come from the whole team, it’s a team effort.

“Our target in 74 points and once we reach that, we will look forward but until then, we will remain focused and get as many points as we can.”
