Club closing in on 100th player in the Football League

From Ameobi to Woolford, 99 players have represented the Cod Army since the Club’s promotion to the Football League following the 2011/12 season.

Kyle Dempsey – who joined the Club on loan from Huddersfield last month – became number 99 after making his debut in the recent home win over Coventry City.

Saturday’s game against Rochdale could see Head Coach Uwe Rosler select another one of his recent Deadline Day signings; Kieran Wallace or Alex Jakubiak to be the 100th player to represent the Club in the Football League.

How many players can you name from the starting line-up that faced Torquay United on 8th August 2012? Hint – one of the players from that day is still playing for the Club now!

Key milestones

1st – 13 players (starting 11 and two substitutes) featured against Torquay United in the Club’s first ever Football League match in August 2012. First team coaches Youl Mawene and Barry Nicholson both played and became the first French and Scottish players to feature for Fleetwood. David Ball is the only current player to appear in our first ever league line-up.

21st – Connor McLaughlin. Northern Ireland international McLaughlin first represented the club at right-back against Cheltenham Town in October 2012.

25th – Rodrigo Branco. Branco featured against Accrington Stanley in November 2012. Rodrigo is also the only Brazilian on the list.

31st – Nathan Pond. Captain and Club Legend Pond was surprisingly the 31st person to play for the Club in the Football League. He played in the home match against Bristol Rovers in January 2013.

50th – Nathan Tyson. Tyson made his debut against Mansfield Town in November 2013.

87th – Shola Ameobi. The former Newcastle United front man in the only Nigerian on the list after making his bow against Port Vale in February of this year.

99th – Kyle Dempsey. The on-loan Huddersfield Town midfielder became the 99th player to feature for Fleetwood Town when he made his debut against Coventry City on the 3rd September.

100th - So who could it be? Well the smart money would be on one of three players. New-boys Alex Jakubiak and Kieran Wallace are both likely to be included in the weekend's squad, as is back-up keeper Alex Cairns while George Glendon could push for a place. But could someone from the Development Squad burst in an pip them at the post?
