Everything you need to know ahead of Fleetwood’s Emirates FA Cup game against Southport…

Town will be looking to improve on their away loss against Bristol Rovers last time out when they travel to face non-league side Southport in the Emirates FA Cup First Round on Monday evening.

Recent form

The Cod Army lost their last away game at Bristol Rovers 2-1, even though they opened the scoring after just four minutes through Ashley Hunter.

Fleetwood have won three and lost two of their last five Sky Bet League One games, with Southport having won three, drawing one and losing one in all competitions.

Southport beat Chester by a goal to nil in the Fourth Qualifying Round to get to this stage, while Uwe Rosler’s side qualify for the First Round proper due to playing in the EFL.

Key men to watch

Southport’s top goal scorer for this season is Jamie Allen; a player who was signed from Fleetwood after not being able to break into the first team. He’s scored three goals this season and has shown throughout his career that he knows where the goal is. He was recently quoted on the Southport website saying: “I obviously know a lot about Fleetwood and they are a good club, but we’ve got nothing to lose.”

Midfielder Ashley Grimes brings lots of experience to the club. In his youth career he started with Manchester United before moving to Bolton Wanderers. He later transferred to Manchester City, where he started his professional career in 2006, but was loaned out to Swindon due to not being able to break into the first team. Before his move to Southport, he’s been at a list of strong EFL clubs which include Millwall, Rochdale and Bury.
