Midfielder netted his first Town goal against the U's

Jimmy Ryan admits he wants to get back on the scoresheet when Town travel to the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

The midfielder netted his first goal in Cod Army colours when the two sides last met in August, and Ryan wants a repeat performance in Essex tomorrow.

Town’s game at Rochdale on Saturday was postponed due to the weather, while the U’s conceded a last minute goal as they went down 2-1 to Sheffield United.

Ryan said: “It’s a long trip for us but we’re doing everything right and staying over, and we’re all hoping we can come back with the points and make it a trip worthwhile.

“I haven’t scored for a while now so would like to get on the scoresheet again. I’ve scored a few times against Colchester so they’re a bit of a lucky team for me.

“When you lose a late goal like they did on Saturday it’s always disappointing. We’ve just got to go there and play there like we know we can.

“We’ve created a lot of chances over the past few games, but we just need to turn them into goals and hopefully it’ll be enough for us.

“We’ve put in a number of good performances away from home but just haven’t come away with the wins we’ve deserved.

“This period hasn’t been as hectic as we’d thought because a couple of games have been postponed due to the weather.

“But we’re coming into a fixture of games now though where there’s quite a few in a short space of time, so we need to try and keep everyone injury free.”
