NCS is a proactive programme filled with fun and adventure

Fleetwood Town FC Community Trust is delighted to announce a new and exciting partnership with Myerscough College and our National Citizen Service (NCS) Programme.

This past autumn, in partnership with the college, we have successfully delivered 2 NCS trips using students from the Sport department.

NCS is an action-packed and proactive programme filled with fun and adventure. Young people take part in residential activities that will encourage them to take responsibility for their own actions and development.

They will also have a real life opportunity to make a difference in their local community by planning and delivering their very own social action project!

This helps to equip young people with the skills and experiences necessary to boost their CV and confidence.

We have taken away 36 students to Lockerbie Manor for an action-packed and proactive residential trip filled with fun, adventure and challenges aimed to empower and inspire them.

This has given them the opportunity to learn valuable life skills that will help nurture their transition into adult life and prepare them for life in the real world but working within groups and overcome different challenges that they have faced.

Myerscough lecturer and NCS ambassador for the college Gemma Watson, who has been present on both NCS trips, said: “The NCS programme is an excellent opportunity for our learners to engage in a community, outdoor activity based team building project.

"The programme supports the ethos of the college by providing opportunities for all whilst helping learners develop social independence and confidence through a range a fun filled activities”.

Another of our ambassadors within the college is Director of Pastoral and lifelong Fleetwood Town fan, Bernard Pendleton.

Without Bernard’s hard work, passion and support the partnership who never have been created and when asked about the programme, he commented; “Myerscough College has a fantastic partnership with Fleetwood Town FC and their NCS programme.

"Currently we have had a large amount of students through the programme last term with a further 100 planned for this year.

"These are life changing opportunities, giving our students an ideal opportunity to have a break from their studies, trying out new outdoor activities, building their confidence, self-esteem and team building skills.

"On return from the experience every student has commented on how enjoyable and amazing their experiences have been. They also complete community initiatives and projects and so, our local community also benefits.”

Fleetwood Town FC Community Trust’s NCS Co-ordinator, Joey Newson, has said, “The NCS is a great opportunity for 15-17 year olds to develop and challenge themselves in a fun and new environment.

"The partnership that has been created with Myerscough will give more students the opportunity to take part in such a wonderful programme.

"We have delivered two very successful trips already with Myerscough students with many more planned over the coming months with Equine and Foundation Learning students.”

The NCS is not solely open to Myerscough students and the club will be running a trip in the summer for any Year 11 or Year 12 students.
