Barry Nicholson's thoughts after Wednesday's game

Fleetwood Town development manager Barry Nicholson spoke to the Club website following the 2-0 loss against Bradford City at Poolfoot Farm.

Fleetwood needed to win the game against the Bantams to progress through to the next round of the Final Third Development Cup, however despite dominating; the Yorkshire side claimed the points with two second half goals.

Nicholson said: “We are really disappointed to lose the game and consequently get knocked out of the Final Third Development Cup.

“We dominated the game but we didn’t score. Football is like that, when you don’t score it can come back and bite you and it is a big lesson for the lads.

“When you are on top in a game, you have to take your chances and we certainly had plenty of opportunities.

“The two goals we conceded were both comedy goals to be honest, both bad mistakes. When you do not put the ball in the back of the net at the other end of the pitch, the bad luck can go against you at the other end and that is what happened today.

“I stressed to the players before the game that we have put ourselves in a great position by drawing with Burnley and beating Morecambe. If we had won today, we would have advanced through to the next round with our superior goal difference.

“We did everything we can by planning and preparing right to win the game but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

“I feel for the lads because they played some excellent football and they passed the ball really well. When we conceded the goals we lost a bit of composure but overall I was really pleased with the way that they played and we are disappointed not to have won the game.”
