Head Coach speaks ahead of New Year's Eve game with Oldham

Uwe Rosler claims Fleetwood are in a ‘fantastic position’ ahead of their final game of the calendar year against Oldham on New Year’s Eve.

Rosler’s side are currently eighth in Sky Bet League One and in the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup, and are looking to end the year ten unbeaten.

However, the German is expecting a tough game against the Latics at Highbury on Saturday.

“You need to read what the Sheffield United manager said after the last game, he describes Oldham as the best opposition at Bramall Lane this season,” said Rosler.

“They just got beat in the last ten minutes and they played 80 minutes perfect, considering the opposition and the form they are in. We just experienced the Bury game and in our league, the difference between number 20 and number eight is marginal.

“You have to work the margins to be ahead in the end – we’ve done that in the majority of the season. We also had our challenges with players that wasn’t available and I think that has shown a little bit.

“The margins are not big – at the moment we are not at our strongest because of the players we have missing.

“We have a great mentality but need to grind out results. We are at home, so we need to be on the top of our game and take the initiative like we did in the second half of the Bury game and hopefully that will lead us to a win.”

Town’s Head Coach was eager to praise the way that his team have adapted to the new coaching staff since arriving three days before the start of the season.

“I think we are in a fantastic position and a position that we couldn’t imagine in August especially coming off the back of conceding 16 goals in pre-season.

“Considering the challenges we had, as well as having 14 new players and a new set of coaches arriving three days before the season started – everything was basically against us!

“But we found our way to know about each other quick and to learn from each other quick – the players and the staff have performed a good mentality to get us into the position we are in now.”

Rosler also added in his pre-match press conference that he will have a select number of players available for the game.

“We are more or less picking the players from the same squad as we did in the last game.”
