Development squad will host the Reds at 1pm

Fleetwood Town’s development squad will play Liverpool in a friendly fixture at the Club’s new training ground on Thursday afternoon at 1pm.

The game at Poolfoot Farm will be the first time Town have hosted the Reds on home soil, having played a number of previous encounters at Liverpool’s academy base.

Barry Nicholson’s side were last in action a fortnight ago when they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Carlisle United, so will be looking for a winning return on Thursday.

He said: “It’s another great game for us on Thursday. We’ve obviously been over there a few times so it’s nice to get them over to our place to see the new facilities.

“We’re trying to get some of the Premier League teams over to see what we’re all about, so I’m glad that Michael Beale has agreed for his side to play us.

“It’ll be a good chance for our boys to test themselves against good opposition, and we’ll also have two or three trialists in the group as well.

“The game we’ve had with them have been very good. They’ve got a lot of technical players in an academy set-up which has been running for a good few years.

“Ours is just sort of starting so these are the clubs we want to look at and emulate hopefully in the future. It’s another one to look forward to.”

Fans are urged to come along to Poolfoot Farm to watch the game on Thursday, and can enjoy themselves in the new Crossbar and Grill restaurant which has recently opened to the public.

“With the cafe and the bar now open at the facility it’s a brilliant opportunity for supporters to come along and support the players.

“These lads will hopefully play a part in the Club’s future, so it’ll be great if a few of them come along on Thursday to give the players some support.”
