Midfielder speaks following 2-1 loss at Wigan

Bobby Grant bemoaned the manner in which Town conceded their goals against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium this afternoon.

The Cod Army fell behind just before the break when Jordan Flores half volleyed past Chris Maxwell from inside the area.

Michael Jacobs doubled the advantage just a minutes after the interval, when he connected with a low cross from the left to slot home.

Defender Tyler Forbes pulled one back for Graham Alexander’s side on the hour mark with a volley at the back post.

Town threw everything at the Latics for the final half hour, but were unable to find an equaliser as David Ball hit the post in injury time.

After the game, Grant said: “We dominated the last half an hour of the game and thought we did for most of the second half really.

“You can’t give cheap goals away in football like we have done today though. It’s been a bit of a curse for us these past few weeks as we’re not making it hard enough for teams to score.

“We can more than match any team in this division, but it’s just getting little stupid mistakes out of our game as they’re costing us.

“I didn’t think Wigan had to do much to score at all. The manager and the lads will all the say the same as I’ve just said, it’s two cheap goals.

“When you come to places like this you’ve got to go out there and play your stuff. Wigan didn’t do much to beat and overall we deserved at least a point.

“I thought we were a lot fitter than Wigan in the end as they seemed to die a death. We need to make teams to work very hard to score against us.

“We gifted them two stupid goals and if we wouldn’t have done that we would have come away with the victory.

“It’s okay saying if we did this or if we did that, we’ve got to do it out on the pitch.”
