Community Trust deliver first grassroots football tournament

26 May 2015

A number of teams participated from across the Fylde

Over the bank holiday weekend, Fleetwood Town’s Community Trust delivered its first grass roots football tournament in partnership with McDonalds.

The Festival of Football was open to three age groups; Under 7s, 8s, and 9s, with teams across the Fylde Coast and as far as Preston taking part.

The main focus of the day was situated around a five-a-side football tournament with 24 teams and over 200 kids playing.

Youngsters also had the opportunity to play on an inflatable pitch, test their shot on the speed gun challenge as well as have their photograph taken in the home changing rooms.

For young enthusiastic players this was a fantastic opportunity for them to play on Highbury’s pitch and experience playing at a professional ground with high quality facilities.

McDonalds, the sponsors of the tournament, have a fantastic reputation for delivering community sports projects, and so we were delighted to work in partnership with them to deliver a successful tournament at Highbury.

Jason Sharp, Sports Development Officer said: “The tournament was a huge success, and with it being our first tournament the support has been fantastic from local junior clubs.

"I’d like to thank McDonalds for their support of the tournament. We are now hoping that this can be an annual event allowing for more young kids to play at Highbury.”

We want to thank all the junior clubs, coaches and parents that took part. The football on the day was played in good spirit, and a big congratulations must go to the teams below that won their respected age groups.
